*Sparkle Fingers*

Besides just being interesting, this NPR segment touches on something I think about quite a bit, namely how I view myself versus how I'm viewed by others. As I test and revise my methods for approaching and counseling patients, I'm always thinking about how they perceive my words and actions. How they receive my message is key to whether or not we understand each other and whether or not they comply with my recommendations. But realistic self-assessment is key to improving in any setting. That seems pretty common-sensical. But it's no suprise that, generally, Americans and Europeans are terrible at self-criticism simply due to optimism gone wild. We believe in ourselves!
